SubVersion

Under a Windows computer system we recommend the SVN (subversion) Frontend of http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/favicon.ico TortoiseSVN. After a successfull installation the Windows Explorer provides a subversion menu, as you can see in the picture.

Using this plugin complete repositories or single parts of it can be checked out easily from a SVN Server. To checkout the RWTH - Mindstorms NXT Toolbox repository you have to set the URL to https://svn.lfb.rwth-aachen.de/mindstorms/subversion/".

Instructions for the first SVN-Repository-Checkout:

  1. Change in a local directory where you want to checkout the RWTH - Mindstorms NXT Toolbox.
  2. Within the Windows Explorer do a right click on the target directory an select the menu item SVN Checkout….
  3. Write into the text field URL of repository the SVN server URL: https://svn.lfb.rwth-aachen.de/mindstorms/subversion/.
  4. Write into the text field Checkout directory the local target directory. (normally already set)
  5. Select the option HEAD revision.
  6. Press the OK button.

Instruction for a SVN-Repository-Update:

Before you want to checkin new or changed files to the SVN repository (reserved only for registered users), do an SVN-Update to avoid potential conflicts.

  1. Within the Windows Explorer do a right click on the already checked out local directory and select the menu item SVN Update.
  • After that an update is executed, which meens all files will be updated to the newest revision.

Rules for Committing files:

  • For finally adding, changing and deleting files (reserved only for registered users) a SVN Commit command has to be executed. Only then the changes take effect in the repository.
  1. Within the Windows Explorer do a right click on the local directory, which includes the changed files and select the menu item SVN Commit.
  2. In the text field Message please describe the changing with a short description.
  3. The field Changes Made shows an overview of the changed files in the repository. Please take care that only the correct files are selected for commiting.
    Please consider that the commit command write the local file changes to the repository. A new entry of the changing protocol of the repository is made for every commit command. These protocol entries can not be removed. Therefore only reasonable commit commands should be executed!
  4. Press the OK button.

Adding files to the SVN-Repository:

  1. Within the Windows Explorer do a right click on the target directory or file and select the menu item ToroiseSVN / Add.
  2. Do a SVN Commit command as described above.

Deleting files forn the SVN-Repository:

  1. Within the Windows Explorer do a right click on the target directory or file and select the menu itemToroiseSVN / Delete wählen.
  2. Do a SVN Commit command as described above.
